Fortunately, for at least twenty years, flannel shirts and heavy wool sweaters are no longer the indispensable elements for the thermal layer of the hiker's clothing. Of course, these traditional garments had an undoubted charm and elegance, but also two major disadvantages: the weight, quite high compared to the thermal insulation capacity, and the tendency, once wet, to retain water, becoming still heavier and losing most of its insulating qualities. Their place in the backpack has been occupied by the now ubiquitous fleece garments, as the Italians call it, or fleece synthetic polyester fibers: the same PET with which ordinary plastic bottles are made. Fleece is a particularly "hairy" fiber and garments made with this material are soft and comfortable. In addition to these pleasant sensations, there are fundamental technical characteristics for outdoor use: the very thin "hairs" of the fleece constitute, in fact, a sort of "net" that traps the air, forming a heat-insulating pad around the body. Below we offer the technical data sheets of some of the most popular fleece garments made by leading companies in the sector.
