It's a beautiful January Sunday morning that inaugurates one of the best trips in recent years. It starts from the Certosa di Pesio in an easterly direction taking the long but easy beech wood in the Vallone del Cavallo which accompanies us from the 859m of the Certosa up to 1700m where, thinning out, it leaves room for the generous slope that descends from the top of the Gardiola (1890m).
At this point we do not reach the top but when we cross the road we keep to the right along the long ridge that leads us to cross the Gias Mascarone, a ridge that acts as a watershed between the Ellero valley and the Pesio valley.
At the end of this long ridge we are Al Casino del Cars, a plateau that gives us untouched snow and a wonderful view.
At this point we find ourselves facing the first important wall of this trip which overlooks the Casino del Cars with a considerable slope.
Arrived at the top of the Carset (1965m) we are at the foot of the Cars which with its gentle profile and its many crosses welcomes us with a screaming snow. We attack it first by staying in the central valley and then by going up the north face, an easy and fairly safe inclined plane. Once out we keep to the right going up the ridge which takes us to the highest point, Cima del Cars at 2218m.
And now, after 4 hours of wonderful surroundings and suffering, the most enjoyable part of the trip is approaching… the descent! We start bombing down the south wall that leads to Colle di Serpentera. Beautiful slope for those who, like me, love steep slopes but unfortunately with the conditions of this crazy winter the snow was very little and in some places baked by the sun.
It doesn't matter because in a moment we are at the hill where, turning to the right, we take the ridge facing west and we find exactly what we were looking for, that cold and load-bearing flour that we haven't seen for a while! A long, wide slope, with a slope that is a little easy but very very fun which reaches up to Gias Madonna.
From there, taking the wood we arrive at Pian del Creus (1293m), a beautiful flat clearing surrounded by greenery! At the end of the plateau you enter the fir forest which, with a good slope, takes us to the dirt road at the bottom of the Vallone del Salto valley, which takes us to Pian delle Gorre (1032m). Continuing on the well-beaten cross-country track, you return to the Certosa di Pesio.
Proper planning and preparation of a tour minimizes the risks you run in the mountains and can prevent unpleasant situations and their possible outcomes. This blog is just a basic guideline of everything you need to consider while still sitting at home preparing for a tour that will take place in the following days.
Usually people who go on a trip together know each other. Technical capabilities and mutual fitness are therefore transparent. This is an advantage for the management of tour time and the smooth running of the trip. On the other hand, if group members are unfamiliar with each other, precise communication in advance of riding level and walking speed is required. For this reason, if you are the most experienced member and therefore the Tour Leader, you must be able to modify the parameters of the tour according to the physical fitness and driving skills of the weakest member of the group! If you are not the tour leader you must still have the ability to understand if whoever assumes the burden of managing the group is actually doing it!
